Linux vs. Windows

I love open source stuff and visual effects.  It's my dream to one day have a studio where we use all open source stuff... But right now here are some hang ups with just regular day-to-day stuff that I can't get working in linux.

  • Podcasts - I can't get songbird on Ubuntu to download podcasts.  Thus I use iTunes on windows to sync my library.
  • Playing movies -  VLC on ubuntu can't keep up the frame rate at fullscreen like it can in Windows.
  • TrackMania --  Love this windows only driving game.  Tried Drift and a few other driving games on ubuntu and couldn't get them working
  • Video editing -- Couldn't get cinelerra working on ubuntu so have to use Adobe Primere on Windows.
  • DVD Authoring -- Couldn't get some of the dvd authoring tools working on ubuntu and so use Adobe Encore on Windows.

Such a sad story.  I had such high hopes for Ubuntu.
