Cache Question

We never got to talk about properly caching the scene for correct motion blur, etc.  Can you please sum it up for us?  I'm still having those wierd disappearing particles in my scene, and I want to make sure I do it right.

  Thanks, George

I don't have the book at

I don't have the book at home with me but look in it.  There is a "rendering particles" chapter that talkes about how to cache.

It is under the Solvers->Create particle disk cache menu.

We did talk about this several times in class.  Remeber most importantly that once you cache your particles are no longer changeable.  You can make edits in the AE but they won't do anything.  You can change render attributes but the dynamics are not calculated because the particles are "hard coded".

I must have misunderstood

I must have misunderstood you.  In our last class, I got the impression that there was a different way of caching particles.  I know the regular procedure.

Sorry for the confusion.

There are two different

There are two different ways.  We talked about both.

One way is a per Maya Session way.  Once you close Maya the cache goes away because it was just stored in memory (RAM).

The second way is more permanent and is written to disk, and stays around after you exit Maya.  The second way is what I described in class and in the above message.

The first way is just to improve interactivity (and to be able to use the time slider).  Some people like to create these.  I prefer just to do a playblast if I need to go back and forth.
